We didn't plan on taking any trips this summer, but when we found out Patrick had the last week of July off from work we knew we had to take advantage of that time. We quickly planned and took a little getaway to Heber Valley. I absolutely love this part of the state. I warned Patrick that I would probably talk about moving there the entire time and it turns out that he started daydreaming about it right along with me! What's not to love about beautiful and green farmland and mountains in every direction and the super charming main streets found in both Heber City and Midway?! Plus, fly fishing absolutely everywhere. That sealed the deal for Patrick!
We found a deal for some nice cabins at the Rivers Edge Campground on Groupon. We are known for planning our trips based on Groupon deals. It has saved us lots of money and we've really enjoyed every place we've visited so far.
The cabin was a hit with Asa because of it's broom. He seriously carried that thing around anytime we were inside.
Puppy Dog came along for the ride. This photo makes me so happy because it captures Asa's newly found cuddly side.
Patrick wanted to cook the meals on our trip. I won't ever say no to taking a break from cooking. (I promise I helped with the clean up though!)
We enjoyed french toast and the pretty views from the cabin's porch.
I had no idea Patrick had never started a fire before. He looked like a pro getting this one going. He is now officially qualified for our current church calling as Wolf Den leaders!
Asa and Daddy always invent the best games… like closet peekaboo!
We took a soak at the Homestead Crater in Midway. It was such a fun and different experience. I was worried how Asa would react to being in a dark cave-like setting and wearing a life jacket for the first time but he seemed to like the whole adventure the very most!
It was hard to get decent photos due to the dark lighting so I stole one off of the Homestead's website and included a few iPhone photos of ours just to give everyone an idea of what the crater is all about.
Our other big outing was a ride on the Heber Creeper.
It is just the best watching Asa take in new experiences.
We couldn't get enough of his face when he first heard the train's choo-choo.
His mouth pretty much hung open for five minutes after the train first pulled out of the station.

The Rivers Edge Campground is located at the foot of the Jordanelle Reservoir's wall. It is best not to think too much about what would happen if the dam wall were to burst if you want to rest easy during your stay!
We took a quick drive up to the scenic overlook.
Wow. You would have thought from the amount of photos here that we had been gone for two weeks instead of two days!
In my opinion you can never have too many photos so here are two more of our favorite little dude who is looking more and more like a big kid all the time!
